Letterkenny finally overcome their recent bogeyteam with stunning hatrick from Daniel Faulkner

Belfast High School Former Pupils were the visitors to Dave Gallaher Park this Saturday.
A beautiful, calm day belied the mud bath the previous 24 hours rain had made of around fifty percent of the Letterkenny pitch.
Letterkenny started much the brighter with some big carries from Dunleavy, Digimas and Canning providing young Peter Scott an armchair ride at out half, affording the Raphoe teenager the time and space to unleash his back line and after a slick interchange of passes, Daniel Faulkner raced clear to score the first try of the day.
A couple of minutes later Faulkners pace and footwork proved too much for his opposite number as he cut the BHSFP defensive line to ribbons to score a wonderful individual try.
At this stage the home sides physicality was starting to tell, and after an excellent break by open-sided Martin Molloy, the ensuing ruck clear out by the Letterkenny forwards left 2 of their opposition players unable to continue on the stroke of halftime.
The 2nd half started much the same way as the first had ended with the home side well on top.
A rare foray by the visitors into the Letterkenny half resulted in a turnover which the home sides back line punished fully, some lovely hands from Foy and Walsh put winger Petersen free down the left, his pace outstripping the despairing tackle of his opposite number, at this point he still had 40 meters to go and the full back to beat, which he duly did with a wonderful side step to go in under the posts.
At this point it would have been easy for the Belfast men to capitulate, but it speaks volumes to their character that at this point and down to 13 men that they played their best rugby, alas it was in vain as Daniel Faulkner topped off a man of the match performance with his third try of the day and in turn sealing the bonus point victory.
After a further injury for the away side the referee decided to call an early halt to the proceedings and few could argue with that decision.
