Letterkenny 49 Ballymena 6 in Ulster league match

On Saturday Letterkenny welcomed Ballymena to the Glebe and produced a
performance with plenty of quality to send the visitors home on the wrong
end of a 49-6 scoreline. An early try from Baliey Laughlin put the home side
on their way with Peter Scott adding the converison to give a 7-0 lead after
2 mins. A quick response from Ballymena meant the score was 7-3 on 3mins
after indiscipline from Kenny. After a scrappy period of play more
indiscipline and a punishment of 10 metres meant the vistors had a much
easier effort at the post and on 13mins the score was 7-6.
Conor Cannon crossed the line on 17mins to restore Letterkennys lead
14-6 after good play from a scrum on the visitors 22m line with the ball
being put thrugh the backline. Matthew Faulkner and Peter Scott were leading
the home charge and were finding good support from James Sweeney and Ben
Scott who was to pop up with the next try after a cheeky break from a ruck
10metres out from the Ballymena line. Some sloppy play from Kenny allowed
the visitors to enjoy a period of possession although they were never able
to add to there score with the home pack winning a number of linouts and
scrums against the head.
The second half began again with some sloppy fielding from Kenny with
another penalty conceded for holding on. More indiscipline from home team
again encourages the visitors but the home teams defence holds firm although
they are never seriously threatened. John Fogarty replaces Conor McMenimen
on 45mins and shortly after Matthew Faulkner chases his own chip through to
touch down under the posts after good work from Stephen Gibson. 28-6.
Fionn McGarvey scores a brillant individual try on 59 mins when he fielded a
clearence from Balllymena well inside his own half and fended off a number
of tacklers to go all the way and score himself.Score now 35-6. Shortly
after Kenny create an over lap and despite not letting the ball out wide Ben
Scott with a lovely dummy made ground before feeding Eunan Henry to set up
Baliey Laughlin to cross just to the left of the posts with Peter Scott
maintaining his 100% success rate for the day. 42-6. The last score of the
day came from Eunan Henry after a slick interchange between Peter Scott and
Faulkner with the latter delivering a pass to the winger who had the speed
to outpace the defence from 15metres. Final Score 49-6.
