Rory McGinty runs in a hat-trick of tries at Dave Gallaher Memorial Park

Letterkenny RFC 45-0 Inishowen

Letterkenny RFC Under-18's opened their home league account with a comfortable 45-0 victory against Inishowen on Saturday.

The first half was quite flat and mundane with Inishowen having plenty of possession but unable to penetrate the Letterkenny defensive line which was quite comfortable.

At the same time Letterkenny were producing very little in attack, however on 20 minutes, Letterkenny scrum half Rory McGinty produced a moment of individual opportunism and after turning over possession on the halfway line, he ran in to score under the posts. Try was converted.

McGinty did the same again five minutes later when from a ruck on the right hand side 40 metres out, he sniped down the narrow side and touched down in the corner to leave the score 12-0 and it remained at this to half time.

After half time Letterkenny upped the work rate and quickly scored two more converted tries with centre Ben Scott crashing over from close range and that man McGinty again making a try out of nothing to secure his hat trick.

On 43 minutes, Conor McMenamin, playing in the back row made a break in the middle of the pitch and showed great footwork to beat two tacklers and score to the left of the posts to leave the score 31-0.

McMenamin repeated this again seven minutes later with another score converted by Fionn McGarvey and Ciaran Aitken finished off the scoring after a good catch in midfield, he saw space down the left wing and touched down in the corner and with another fine conversion by McGarvey it left the final score 45-0.

McGinty gave a MOTM performance but a mention should also go the front row of Christopher Gallagher, Mathew McGee and Brendan Duggan who gave a good account of themselves. Overall this was a satisfactory performance from the team but they will have tougher tests ahead in the coming weeks starting with Rainey OB who are one of the top sides in Ulster next week in Magherafelt.

Team was - Christopher Gallagher, Mathew McGee, Brendan Duggan, Joshua Fulton, Stephen Kelly, Joshua Carr, James Sweeney, Conor McMenamin, Rory McGinty, Fionn McGarvey, Sean O'Broain, Ben Scott, Adam Quinn, Lochlan O'Dea, Ciaran Aitken. Subs; Moses Byoake, Hugh Ferry, Fabio Cinquimani, Dean Heyns.
