Inishowen turned up with only 8 players on the day so Letterkenny gave them 4 players so a match could be played, so it was 12 v 12 on the day.
Inishowen get the game under way kicking off to Letterkenny who start with a flourish and with quick hands get the ball out wide where Ewan Douglas receives the ball and goes over in the corner for the first score of the game after 1 min of play. Conversion by Orrin hits the under side of the crossbar 5 – 0.
Letterkenny soon make their way back into the 22 and are awarded a penalty which is quickly tapped by Orrin who feeds Mathew Duffy who in turn pops the ball to a charging Conor Mangan who crashes over under the posts. Conversion missed by Orrin score after 8 mins 10 – 0.
After 14 mins of play Inishowen this time run through the phases and score under the posts, conversion missed and the score is now 10 – 5.
Inishowen are now in the game and make another series of breaks up the middle of the field but this time from a Maul Orrin Burgess rips ball from hand and takes off from the back of the maul and beats several players to score under the posts. 10 mins left and with a drop kick this time the conversion is good by Orrin 17 – 5.
From the kick off Leon Duffy goes on a surging run and makes 20 meters, Conor Mangan is first to the ball and picks and drives a further 5 meters, Letterkenny get the ball out to Orrin who this time opts for the long skip pass out to the wing to Ewan who with a beautiful side step charges over the line in the left corner. 7 mins left and again the conversion is missed and the score remains at 22 – 5.
With mins to go Letterkenny are awarded another penalty which is quickly tapped and presented to a charging Mathew Duffy who crashes over to the right of the posts. Drop kick attempt at conversion missed the score with 2 mins left in the first half 27 – 5.
This time Letterkenny heap on the pressure and manage to turn over the ball, the ball is fed out to Leon Duffy who runs through the middle beating 2 defenders and under the posts. Score 34 – 5 at HT.
The 4 players who started for Inishowen are now changed about giving 4 different players the opportunity to play for their own team. Letterkenny start strong in the second half and with some great running the ball finds it’s way into the hands of Eoin Parkinson who crashes over for his first try of the season to the right of the posts. Leon Duffy attempts the conversion but it just drops short of the bar score, 39 – 5.
This time Inishowen pick up their game and with some fine play score under the posts after 5 mins of play. Score 39 – 12.
Again Inishowen keep up the good play and after a couple of phases find themselves in striking distance again, this time Conor Mangan picks from the back of the maul and crashes over to the left of the posts scoring for Inishowen. 15 mins played and the score is 39 – 19.
Leon Duffy takes ball in the air from the restart and goes on another surging run, with only 2 players to beat, he chips the ball over their heads and the ball kindly bounces back into his hands and he crosses the line under the posts. Leon scores the conversion to make the score 46 – 19 with 10 mins to go.
Inishowen again with some good phases make their way up the field and score under the posts. Score 46 – 26 with 5 mins to go.
Daithi Doherty this time makes a great break and beats several players to score under the posts and the conversion by Leon Duffy is good. Score 53 – 26.
