The lads arrived in Inishowen to receive the points before kick off as Inishowen were missing some players, so Letterkenny gave them Mathew Duffy from the off and the sides were evened out with 13 players a side for kick off.
Inishowen take the KO playing from left to right and with the breeze behind their backs. The first 10 mins is a tight encounter with Inishowen making a great start and holding much of the possession, they make surge after surge but the Letterkenny defence holds firm and they are unable to find a way through.
Letterkenny finally manage to get their hands on the ball and with some fine play from the forwards they make their way up the field to the 22 where they setup the ruck and the ball is fed out the back line and through the hands to be received into the hands of a charging Eoin Harris who makes a couple of fine side steps and scores under the posts. Kaymin slots the conversion and the score after 11 mins of play is [0-7].
Next up is Kaymin who receives the ball from his scrum half Ben Hopkins and he goes on one of his runs and scores out wide in the right corner. 13 mins [0-12] difficult conversion missed this time by Kaymin.
Next up with some great support from his fellow forwards Jack Speer takes the ball up the middle and crashes over 10 meters in from right corner. Another difficult conversion missed to the right of the posts and the score after 18 mins [0-17].
Letterkenny battle their way back up field with some great runs from forwards and backs alike and are awarded a penalty 5 meters from the line. Ben is on his game and with some quick thinking taps the ball to himself and scores again out to the right. 25 mins gone [0-22].
Letterkenny coaches at half time change things up and give the opposition 14 players against the Letterkenny 13.
Letterkenny kick off this time and manage to turn the ball over, the ball is run out the line, Ben, Kaymin, Brian then into the hands of Jason Patton who with a great turn of pace scores under the posts. Drop kick by Kaymin is good. [0-29]
The Letterkenny coaching team now offer up their captain Jack Speer who dawns the blue shirt of Inishowen and this gives a new lease of life to Inishowen who now manage to string some lovely passes of their own together, and through great determination manage to score under the posts and convert [7-22] after 7 mins of play.
Inishowen keep up the pressure but this time a great turn over from Brian McGettigan sees him take of at speed with ball in hand and score under the posts. Again Kaymin goes for one of his drop kicks and scores the conversion [ 7-36].
Next up is Ewan Douglas who goes on a power solo run, he weaves his way in and out of would be tacklers and scores to the left of the posts. Drop kick missed this time [7-41]. 18 mins played.
This time Jack Speer breaks from the back of a maul and crosses the line for his second of the day but this time has a blue shirt on his back, great try for Inishowen. [14-41]. 19 mins.
Eoin Harris is next to put his name on the score sheet with a fine break away try, beating numerous tackles and scoring under the posts. Kaymin again slots the drop kick. 7mins left [14-48].
This time it is Mathew Duffy to cross the line for his first score of the day and he is also wearing a blue shirt for his try. Conversion missed from out right. [19-48].
Inishowen again with some fine play get over the line for the final try of the match to leave the final score on the day [ 26-48].
A great display from both sides and an enjoyable watch for all the parents that made the trip to Carndonagh.
Thanks to our hosts and to the coaches on the day.
