U14s win at home against Inishowen

Letterkenny clocked up another fine win this weekend with a 43-0 a win over a strong Inishowen team at Dave Gallaher park.
Letterkenny took to the hallowed ground of Dave Gallaher today with noticeable absences through injury & exam priorities. With Cian O’Hagan out with a dislocated thumb, Caithair Brady stepped in at No 10, while Finn Duffy to on the kicker duties….big boots to fill indeed! Our experienced Props Connor Gibson & Joe McShane were also absent due to injury and exams, so Ryan Orsi, back from Injury stepped in as captain and filled in at front 3 along with Oisin Alexander. Both were outstanding in the pack today.
After an initial tight opening in which Inishowen tested the Letterkenny defence the home team got on the scoreboard for the first time after ten minutes. From a lineout the home side moved the ball out wide to David Ilie who showed a great turn of pace to run the ball in unopposed from outside the 22 yard line. [5-0].
Two minutes later a tremendous kick chase by Charlie Robinson led to the Letterkenny man overturning a ball he had no right to get and his quick pass out wide released Ronan Keeney to touch down. Try converted by Finn Duffy [12-0]
Letterkenny’s third try came from a period of excellent control of the ball by the home side. After a series of phases the Inishowen defence was stretched and Cian Arenhold found the gap for a well worked try. [17-0]
On the stroke of half time Letterkenny again showed the benefit of their hard work in training with a great passing move across the pitch, this time releasing Archie Stewart down his tram lines to run in a well-deserved 4th try for the winger. Half–time [22-0]
Immediately from the Inishowen restart the ball was well caught and off-loaded to a Finn Duffy ran up the field like a rampaging buffalo, beating of a number of challenges on the outside channel to run in a great individual try having started deep in the Letterkenny half. The Letterkenny man stepped up and converted his own try [29-0].
Midway through the second half, the Letterkenny forwards created another scoring opportunity. Although the initial ball carrier was stopped short of the line the ball was cleverly recycled to Gary McGettigan to barrel through for Letterkenny’s 6th try – and 6th different try scorer of the game. Try converted by Finn Duffy [36-0].
In the last few moments of the game a dominant Letterkenny won the ball at line-out and with a few neat passes Ronan Keeney ran in the final try of the game– again converted. Final score Letterkenny 43 – Inishowen 0. A super team performance by the entire Letterkenny U14 squad clocking up another in a series of fine wins in a competitive division.
Credit to the Inishowen 14s and their coaches who only be described as absolute gentlemen today. The score did no reflect their attitude to the game right down to the final whistle.
