Friday evening, in Derry, the Letterkenny under 12s, played three matches:
The first match was against Coleraine. The boys worked really hard and got an early lead, with a try from Kaymin Short. This was followed by a try from Coleraine, before halftime. In the second half, from a scrum, Peter Sparks ( acting as scrum half ) ran around the blind side and scored a try, before Kaymin scored his second try, ( and third try of the match ) to secure the win.
The second match against Ballymena, was a more even-handed affair. A try from Bryan McGettigan secured a draw. Excellent tackling from Rory O'Connell prevented a runaway try.
The third match against Derry, was a hard struggle. A try from Kaymin gave him a personal hat-trick for the night. A weaker scrum and a hungry Derry team, gave Derry their first win, over Letterkenny, for the season.
Quality play, from the whole team. Good tackling, good rucking and mauling, good ball-skills considering the wet grounds and conditions.
Overall, a great opening performance.
