Sunday afternoon marked an exciting step forward for girls’ rugby in Donegal as players from four clubs came together under the County Donegal banner for a Regional Blitz in Ballymoney.

County teams at U14, U16 and U18 level took part in the event, with the girls representing their clubs and county incredibly well throughout the afternoon.

With excellent conditions for rugby, the newly formed sides produced a series of encouraging performances and gave the supporters on the sidelines plenty to enjoy. Despite players coming together from different clubs, they quickly settled into their teams, supported one another and showed the potential of the new county structure.

The blitz represented an important first step in building the new County Model for girls’ rugby in Donegal. Every player deserves enormous credit for embracing the opportunity and working together so effectively as one county team.

Attention will now turn towards the beginning of the competitive leagues in October. The experience gained in Ballymoney will provide an excellent foundation as the teams continue to train, develop and build connections over the coming weeks.

It is also hoped that the progress of these county teams will encourage even more girls to get involved in rugby and follow in their footsteps in the future.
