Full-time: Letterkenny 19–15 Omagh

Letterkenny RFC’s senior ladies produced a determined comeback against Omagh on Sunday, securing a dramatic 19–15 Championship A West victory with a winning try just three minutes from time.

The opening 15 minutes set the tone for a fiercely competitive encounter. Both sides defended with determination, producing big tackles and sustained pressure as neither was prepared to give an inch.

Omagh eventually broke through for the opening try. Letterkenny captain Angela Ferris then delivered a crucial defensive intervention, chasing down an Omagh runner and making a superb tackle just short of the line. However, the visitors crossed again around the half-hour mark to establish a 10–0 lead.

Letterkenny refused to let their heads drop and found a timely response before the interval. Debutant Zoe Green showed excellent pace down the wing to score, with vice-captain Zara Shortt adding the conversion to leave just three points between the sides at half-time.

That score gave the hosts fresh momentum, and they returned with renewed intensity after the break. Strong tackling and powerful carries kept Letterkenny competitive in a demanding physical contest, with Niamh Farrell and Sarah Glynn making particularly valuable contributions up front.

Despite that effort, Omagh struck first in the second half, scoring through a quick pick-and-go from a ruck to stretch their advantage to 15–7.

Once again, Letterkenny responded. With 15 minutes remaining, Shortt crossed for a crucial try to reduce the deficit to 15–12 and keep the contest firmly in the balance.

Both teams pushed hard as the clock ticked down, but Letterkenny’s persistence eventually brought its reward. With just three minutes remaining, Caoimhe Rooney Friel charged down an Omagh clearance kick, gathered the loose ball and raced over for the decisive try.

Shortt added her second conversion of the afternoon to complete the comeback and secure a deserved 19–15 victory.

It was a performance built on determination, resilience and belief, with every member of the squad contributing. The substitutes made a valuable impact in a physically demanding encounter, helping Letterkenny maintain their effort through to the final whistle.

Sarah Glynn was named Player of the Match following an outstanding display, while debutant Zoe Green received the Captain’s Choice award after an impressive first outing.

Letterkenny scorers:
