Letterkenny made a shaky start and struggled to settle into the game during the opening 15 minutes. A big and physical Sligo side took full advantage, scoring three tries during that period and placing the visitors under considerable early pressure.

However, Letterkenny gradually found their feet and began to produce some excellent rugby. As the game progressed, the team played with much more confidence, particularly with ball in hand, and created several promising attacking opportunities.

Letterkenny’s efforts were rewarded with three tries through Jonathan Russell, Charles Fulton and Josh Byrne. The final scoreline didn’t fully reflect the overall performance, with the visitors unfortunate on several occasions after putting together some very positive passages of play.

Most encouraging was the immense character shown by the players following such a difficult start. The lads continued to compete, worked their way back into the contest and demonstrated the type of resilience that will serve them well during the upcoming league season.

There were plenty of positives to take from the performance, along with several areas to work on when the squad returns to training this week.
