Letterkenny hosted Civil Service on Saturday and came out to prove they are still in contention for the league after losing their last game. Although missing a few key players this was still a strong Kenny side. The first half started off tight with Kenny having most of the possession. The visitors put up a good defence but the pressure from Kenny finally paid off and number 8 Heron got through for a try which was converted by Gibson. Kenny kept on the pressure after this eventually getting a penalty within kicking distance and a sin binning for a civil service player. The penalty was scored by Gibson giving a good lead to Kenny for the opening quarter. Civil Service responded well though and brought the game back to the Kenny half for the next 10 minutes. They used their big pack efficiently, eventually getting a try for their efforts.
The come back wasn’t to last though as before the half was over McFadden broke through to get a try beneath the posts which was again converted by Gibson.
Kenny dominated again in the 2nd half. Some great play from both forwards and backs saw further tries for McFadden and the returning 2nd row Mortimer. Both were converted by Gibson. Final score 31-7 to Letterkenny.
The 2nd XV Cup game on Saturday was abandoned in the 2nd half due to an injury and will be replayed at home this Saturday. The 1st XV have no game until 20th December.
