Starting out, a rainy wet morning, against a well-drilled Ulster area club side, we thought we could be in for a hammering, today. That's not the way it worked out. The rain subsided, but we went into the match with a fierce wind, behind our backs.
Within the first seven minutes, our number ten, Kaymin Shortt, weaved through a number of Ballymoney players, to score a solo try. A few minutes later, the number eight, Jack Speer, drove through the Ballymoney defence, and made the second try of the game. A pattern was starting to emerge. Two further tries, were scored before half-time, the first to Kaymin Shortt and the second to the right wing, Eoin Harris.
Half Time: Letterkenny 26, Ballymoney 0
Letterkenny had fielded a stronger side, and Ballymoney were struggling, to keep any hold over the game, whatsoever.
Early in the second half, fullback, Bryan McGettigan, ran in a try. Flanker, Lorcan Sweeny, made a breakway try, as did lock, Jynaid Rayes. Kaymin scored his third try, of the day, with a kick & chase move. There was a re-shuffle, in the backline, before Jack Speer, and Ewan Douglas scored their tries. Conversions were taked by Kaymin Shortt and Rory O'Connell.
In the dying minutes of the game, Ballymoney were finally rewarded, with a late try.
