Another beautiful autumn morning, with a big challenge, for Letterkenny.
Rainey, ( whom defeated Letterkenny twice, last season,) were up to the task, of taking on the 'Donegal stronghold'. Letterkenny fielded the strongest side they could, as did Rainey.
Kaymin Shortt ( Letterkenny flyhalf ), kicked off, and the first 10 minutes were all Letterkenny, with the play all in Letterkenny's scoring half. The forwards 'slugged-it-out', and after constant pressure, Kaymin was able to get near the line, and managed to pop up the ball, into David Sparks's hands, and he literally dived over the line, for the first try, of the match.
Rainey came back stronger, moving the ball along the back-line, and 'crossed the chalk', getting their first try.
Half Time - Letterkenny 5 Rainey 5
At the break, Jack Gibbons was substituted for Matthew Duffy. ( Such a tight game, no other changes were made ).
Rainey kicked off, and racked up the pressure on Letterkenny. There was plenty of 'toing-and-froing'. From the halfway line, Kaymin Shortt, sidestepped and weaved through the Rainey defense, and scored the first try of the second half, under the posts.
The try was converted by Ben Hopkins.
This only made Rainey more determined, and they ran in another Try.
Into the last ten minutes, Rainey were camped on Letterkenny's 10 metre line. Rainey were desperately, running out of time.
Last play of the match, penalty to Letterkenny. Kaymin kicked the ball out, it was all over.
An even handed game, that could have gone either way....
