Letterkenny U14s played their 12th league match, against Limavady, and continued their perfect record of 12 wins, from 12 games.
With a number of injuries sustained in the schoolboys match ( midweek ), five members of the squad were unavailable, for selection. This meant a shuffle around in the pack, and using more of the extended 35-man squad.
Letterkenny arrived early, were warmed up and ready, facing the cold Limavady wind.
Limavady kicked off, and dominated possession, for the first half. Letterkenny tackling was good ( particularly, the team Captain : Jack Speer ). Limavady had the ball and moved the ball, but struggled to cross the white line, with it. Oisin Farrell ( number eight ), got an early try, for Letterkenny, picking the ball from the back of the scrum, running the blindside and scoring in the corner. Conversion missed.
From a Limavady clearance kick, fullback, Bryan McGettigan, recovered the ball, ran through Limavady defence, and scored Letterkenny's second try, in the corner. Conversion missed.
A third try was scored by flyhalf, Kaymin Shortt. The ball was fed out the backline - Kaymin received it, goosestepped past and eventually around, the opposition to score in the corner. Conversion missed.
Half Time: Letterkenny 15 - Limavady 0
Letterkenny emptied their bench, and gave all their travelling squad, game-time.
Letterkenny kicked to restart. Although Letterkenny were winning, they were not dominant, and struggled to get possession. Letterkenny managed to make plenty of mistakes - knock-ons, dropped balls. The rucking was not great, but from a fumble of Limavadys, replacement lock Issac McIlwaine, scooped up the ball, and ran for the line, scoring Letterkenny's fourth try of the game, and his first try, for this season. Kaymin Shortt converted the try.
After the restart, from a deep Limavady kick, Kaymin collected the ball and ran 80 metres, to score under the posts. Kaymin converted the try. During the last ten minutes of play, Limavady managed to find some form and crossed the line, twice, for two late tries.
Full Time: Letterkenny 29 - Limavady 10
Letterkenny won their 12th league match, but it was, "by no means", their best performance. Elementary, and simple mistakes, let Letterkenny down, and a stronger side, would have severely punished, the team.
