A strong and confident start, for the first friendly match of the 2016 / 2017 season.
With 32 players to choose from, this was the first opportunity to see, how the new team, would fit together. ( The coaching staff were not disappointed ).
From the opening whistle, Letterkenny held back Strabane, for the first ten minutes, from wave after wave of attacks. Finally, Letterkenny got a chance, and Flyhalf, Kaymin Short was able to run in, the first try. After 15 minutes Letterkenny were ahead, 5 - 0.
After strong rucking, and consistent pressure, the ball was fed through the backline, and fullback, Bryan McGettigan ran in, the second try, in the upper-left hand corner, of Moores field.
A third Letterkenny try, came in the first half, from a new-to-rugby player, Conor Mangan, playing lock. After, Kaymin's conversion, Letterkenny led at half time, by 19 - 0.
Over the course of the second half, the Letterkeny backline was changed completely, and some changes were made to the forwards. The first try of the second half, came from Oisin Farrell, and the second, to winger Ewan Douglas. Kaymin was forced to leave the field, due to injury, and Issac Mcllwaine stepped into the flyhalf position. Strabane fought back, with two tries (one converted), before Letterkenny claimed a final try, from a 40 metre run, by lock, Jynaid Rayes.
